The truth about geeks and nerds.

08 November 2001

Every once in a while I have this conversation with people: what is the difference between a geek and a nerd?

My geeky friends and I used to talk about this at Friday lunch. As far as we can tell, nerds are usually portrayed in the movies and TV as socially inept and completely unaware of their shortcomings. Geeks, on the other hand, know full well how nerdy they are and either don't care, or use it to their advantage.

So in short, geeks are self-aware nerds. Sometimes they're even cool.

Just ask Di. She knows.
