On being a web geek.

16 November 2001

I've recently been looking into web technologies that passed me by in the last few years since I've been away from the scene. CSS. PHP. Web standards (what, they have standards now?). I know that a lot of journal and blog sites are chock full of cool functionality and look really slick whilst appearing totally effortless.

You know what? I can't be stuffed. Like the original punch buggy, this site is decidedly old-fashioned and low-tech. I use a text editor to update it, and everything is 100% manually created. But it works. I have enough to do with my current job (as a geeky C++ developer) without spending all of my free time learning how to be a web developer. I'll have to leave that to the experts. Anyway, my web host won't let me run any server-side stuff besides a guestbook and counter.

Speaking of, one of these days I might implement the guestbook. But it won't allow comments linked to a particular journal entry. Oh well.

Okay, well I might get around to using CSS some day.
