What's going on, you ask?
Yes, yes, I know, I haven't posted anything in yonks. Something to do with starting a new job and taking care of a small child. And also trying to clean up the house and finish stuff like this, on the computer...
I have finally updated Alexander's page. I've run out of space, so I had to remove all the old photos from his site.
The new job is going well, seeing as I've only been there a week. My colleagues are the colourful bunch I thought they'd be, and they seem to be putting up with my own quirks so far...
So what do I do at work? Well, seeing as our stuff is patented, I can't really tell you or I'd have to kill you...
Anyway, it has been a big change going back to work. I've got a lot less free time, for one thing! I don't know how single parents cope. Lisa has her hands full pretty much all day when Alex isn't in day care. Hooray for day care (we sorted out the day care, and his new carer is very nice... he goes there on Wednesdays and Thursdays). I'm pretty stuffed when I get home in the evenings, because I get up very early and the commute is over an hour each way (on the train, thankfully - I don't have to be awake to drive in traffic). So I only have a couple of hours each day to see Alex before he goes to bed.
So basically, the weekends are now way too short!
Oh well. Enough whingeing. Somebody's gotta earn money for nappies.
The nurse at the family health centre suggested we take Alex for a hearing test, since he has been a very quiet baby until now. But I think he heard her. He's discovered his voice and all week he's been babbling. Okay, he only says one thing, and it sounds like "da-da-da-da-da", but I interpret that to be "Dadda". What else could it be? We'll teach him "Mummy" next.
He hasn't figured out that he doesn't need to keep poking his tongue out when he talks, though. It's very funny. And sometimes he has trouble with his volume control.
We're not going to bother with the hearing test.
We've also been taking Alex swimming every Sunday. It's a special baby swimming class, in a small hydrotherapy pool which is kept at body temperature. The parents and babies all swim together, and it's mostly unstructured - kind of like a big bathtime, really. Alex seems to like it, although he's not too sure about putting his head underwater. They teach you techniques to get babies used to stuff like that. Just like on land, he doesn't want to sit still in the water either - his favourite thing is to float around with Daddy, kicking his little legs behind him!
One day we'll take the camera and get some photos. When we remember!
