Things I've Learned Lately.
03 March 2004

("Lately" in this case means "sometime in the past seven months".)

Yes, I'm still here. Pondering the following:

  1. You make time for what's important. Unfortunately this site hasn't been important enough to me lately. Bugger.
  2. Alex learning to walk is important. So is his ever-expanding vocabulary.
  3. Buying a house is a very involving experience.
  4. Building a swimming pool is a VERY involving, and frustrating, experience.
  5. Moving house sucks. Especially on a 40-degree, mega-hayfever day.
  6. Two things that I never want to do again are move house and build a swimming pool.
  7. Buying a new car is very simple and easy compared to the house and pool.
  8. If you want to be frustrated, hire Lazaway to build your swimming pool.
  9. My wife Lisa is very, very patient. Especially with pool builders who couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery.
  10. According to Alex, the set of whole numbers begins with "2, 8, 6, 4, 3" every time.
  11. According to Alex, the most interesting thing to do in the evenings is to walk (or be wheeled) through the neighbourhood looking for a giraffe. And then a cat. And then another cat.
  12. Ceramic giraffe statues in other people's front gardens are very interesting to certain small people.
  13. Sometimes you can pretend that a shoe, sitting on the floor in the back of someone's open garage, is a cat. This is getting more difficult each day however.
  14. Getting a product ready in time for a window of opportunity in the market can take a lot of work. On weekends even.
  15. Sometimes you just have to say "oh, bugger work" and spend some time updating your online journal.
  16. According to Jenna, sometimes you just have to have pizza.
